That's because the libtool script is trying to access the $SED variable,
which *should* probably be defined by the Makefile, but isn't. I guess
this is an incompatibility between those particular versions of automake
and libtool (or whatever).

Anyway, the simplest workaround is to 'export SED=sed' before running
'make'.

Then it'll work. If you face more problems, please tell us!
