As I see it, the main quest is the overall direction of the game -
discover the identity of the letter's sender, learn alchemy. Subquests
are large discreet components of the main quest - Help the Dwarves,
Rescue the Monks, Capture Alek - quests so big they might be
considered the main quest for some portion of the game. Sidequests
have no direct relation to the Main quest and may not even be
available to all play paths. It may be a distinction without a
difference, but it might be useful to know what we are working on If
so, we can collapse the tree to

Quest:DB:Main:  
Quest:DB:Side:

And leave it at that.
