Can you connect to mysql? For example:
-----------------------------------
mysql -u root -p
-----------------------------------
And input your passwd to see if it can enter the REPL of mysql.
If you can do that, then it means mysql/mariaDB started successfully.
Usually, the default config of mysql is to open an UNIX socket named
/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock for connecting. And if it doesn't exist, it
means mysql may not start successfully.
Please give it a try.
