What about avrdude -?
That prints out the usage and it's not an error condition.
And there are a lot of counter examples, such as gcc --help which prints to
stdout and not to stderr. Other GNU programs do the same thing.
But if you want it, I'll change it back on Monday unless somebody else wants
to do it over the weekend.
