Puzzled here too. Its a bug, for sure. Stranger still, using the
deprecated symbol COMPILE in-place of :COMPILE-TOPLEVEL seems to
result in correct behavior. Seems to be a viable workaround for the
moment, and perhaps a clue as to the cause.
