Where is the official beaver download location?

http://www.nongnu.org/beaver/dloads/dloads.html  points to missing files 
since they were removed. So I am using an old mirror at 
http://mirrors.ibiblio.org/.

Also is there plans on any more development or maintenance (if needed)?

Or do you have any suggestions for other lightweight and simple notepad? 
(I am looking for something for my young children.)
