The screen shot looks as if the DDD application defaults were missing
- this causes all the problems you mentioned, and more.  (DDD should
normally detect this by itself...)

This may be a configuration or installation problem.  Did you try `ddd
--check-configuration'?  Also, you may like to try DDD 3.2.98, which
has a totally reworked installation procedure.
