Error configuring DDD-3.3.7 on Tru64/Alpha

When running configure, I get an error concerning libiberty.

The command line used was:

CC=cc CXX=cxx CPPFLAGS=-D__USE_STD_IOSTREAM <...>/ddd-3.3.7/configure
--prefix=<...> --exec-prefix=<...>

Configure starts with the usual output ....

checking build system type... alphaev56-dec-osf5.1
checking host system type... alphaev56-dec-osf5.1
checking target system type... alphaev56-dec-osf5.1
checking for product name... DDD 3.3.7 "Dodgy"
checking for expiration date... no
compiler (cxx) supports mutable members... yes

<snip> and then:

configure: configuring in libiberty
configure: running /bin/bash '<...>/ddd-3.3.7/libiberty/configure'
--prefix=<...>  '--prefix=<...>' '--exec-prefix=<...>/OSF1-V5.1-alpha' 'CC=cc'
'CPPFLAGS=-D__USE_STD_IOSTREAM' 'CXX=cxx' --cache-file=/dev/null
--srcdir=<...>/ddd-3.3.7/libiberty
configure: warning: CC=cc: invalid host type
configure: warning: CPPFLAGS=-D__USE_STD_IOSTREAM: invalid host type
configure: error: can only configure for one host and one target at a time
configure: error: /bin/bash '<...>/ddd-3.3.7/libiberty/configure' failed for
libiberty

Searching the net, I found that the same happens on BSD as well:

TIA, Markus
