OK, problem solved (by the customer...)
Here's what happened - the customer (Caldera) has an employee that
was testing the software on a system that had a beta version (2.1.96?)
of glibc and saw the problem and reported it. This was forwarded
up the chain without checking things until it landed in our laps.
