Java and the LGPL

Hello, I recently ported the glibc md5-crypt algorithm (from
crypt/md5-crypt.c) to Java. As my understanding goes, the ported version
is still under the LGPL. In Java, as all .class files are linked at
run-time, when using a LGPL .class, is the remainder of the application
considered "derived work" or "work that uses the Library?" Does it matter
whether the LGPL .class file is included in the same .jar file or not?
