locale not supported by C library - need help

I have a Redhat 6.2 system.  I just completed installing gcc-2.95.3
and glibc-2.2.5. I recompiled gcc-2.95.3 after installing glibc-2.2.5
as suggested in the INSTALL file.  I am getting the following errors
when trying to run the associated applications.  This doesn't seem to
make any difference with Netscape as it appears to work fine anyway;
however, the Ximian Gnome installation aborts with this error.  Did
I make a mistake during the install of glibc?  There was a localedata
tar/gzip file in the gnu ftp site download directory, but I didn't get it
because I interpreted the FAQ to say that this wasn't needed.


When I activate Netscape I get this:

Gdk-WARNING **: locale not supported by C library

When trying to run the installer for Ximian Gnome I get:

Gdk-WARNING **: locale not supported by C library
