GLIBC_2.2 & GLIBC-2.2.3 not found

I did not find a help-glibc mailing list, so I hope this is posted to the 
correct list.

I have tried to upgrade from glibc-2.1.2 to glibc-2.2.5.
The kernel is Linux 2.2.14.
The compiler is gcc ver. 2.95.3.
I did a ldconfig after the install.

I tried upgrading as primary library and when I type a command I get a message 
that the GLIBC_2.2 and GLIBC_2.2.3 are not found. I reread the doc and did a 
search on the web and have not found how to fix the problem.

If I reboot I get a fatal error and the reboot fails.

I presume I need another package but I have not found it.

Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated,
