about debugging pthreads?

Hi,
     My machine is running Redhat 9.0, glibc-2.3.2-11.9 and  gdb-20030530.
     When I run gdb from the command line, I am told that I will not be
     able to degub pthread. it's related to glibc.
 address@hidden@cs ~]$ gdb

dlopen failed on 'libthread_db.so.1' - /lib/tls/libthread_db.so.1:
undefined symbol: ps_get_thread_areaGDB will not be able to debug pthreads.
