Use the workaround described at http://www.kegel.com/gprof.html
It's only approximate, but it works ok.
Alternately, you could try to come up with a way of
fixing gprof that Ulrich might like.
Or you could use oprofile.

So has there been any development regarding profiling of multi-threaded
libraries? I feel at a dead end now. What else can I do?
