tring to update libc.so

I'm trying to update my Linux system with the latest g++ compiler and 
libc.so. Downloaded the distribution.  First problem configure in the 
directory? so I goto a new directory.  That then fails on need 
linuxthreads. Ok get that, how to do that?  not stand  alone? make as 
part of glibc?  how?
