I'm glad that GMP is turning over code more frequently nowadays, I look forward
to the next release.

And not read the FAQ... Sorry.
Anyway, on a more positive note, are you interested in a fixed 6.5%
optimisation of mpn_popcount() (on 64 bit platforms - dunno about 32 bit ones)?
I noticed "Robert Harley of Inria, France and David Seal of ARM, England,
suggested clever improvements for population count." in the contributors
section, and found myself unable to resist the temptation - I've been looking
into bits-in-buckets for the last few weeks, and was sure there'd be room for
improvement.
I don't know how you'd want me to submit the improvement - I have it all coded
up and tested (hey, who needs a social life, I've got a new GMP to play with!)
so can drop you a file, or context diffs, or whatever.
Keep up the good work (I'm a prime freak - I need speed!)
