mpn/mod_1.asm is a symlink to one of three versions of that routine:
generic i386, Intel P6, or AMD K7. The P6 and K7 ones won't run on
K6, nor on a P5 or P5MMX pentium.

The best is to build for the cpu you've got, --target=k6-pc-freebsd3.5
or whatever, though it should be auto-detected. See "Build Options"
in the manual.
