gmp-4.1 make fails

Hi this is regarding a previous message on this list. the message can be

I am also having the same problem.
during configure or gmake, I didnt give any special options (except 
--prefix=/hostname/usr/local) It is using the cc complier.

A typical compile line taken from near the end of the gmake ( before 
error) is the following
cc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I. -D__GMP_WITHIN_GMP -fast -fns=no 
-fsimple=1 -xarch=v9 -c randlc2s.c  -KPIC -DPIC -o .libs/randlc2s.o

the ld command that failed looked like
/usr/ucb/ld -G -h libgmp.so.3 -o .libs/libgmp.so.3.3.0  .libs/assert.o 
.libs/compat.o .libs/errno.o .libs/extract-dbl.o .libs/insert-dbl.o 
.libs/memory.o .libs
[....lots of other stuff and the last command option ] -lc

Also
uname -a
SunOS hostname 5.8 Generic_108528-14 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-5_10

Any idea?
