We've had joy from the Apple hacked gcc 2.95.2, not sure we've tried
this 3.1 before.

I have a problem making the makefile. It stops with this error
checking if globals are prefixed by underscore... configure: error:
Test program links neither with nor without underscore.

To get something working, you can force that with

        ./configure gmp_cv_asm_underscore=yes

(I think the right answer is yes.)

config.log:

That seems to have been truncated somehow, it should be a lot longer,
and near the end have something about "checking if globals are
prefixed by underscore".

All followups to address@hidden please.

Now all works
