Yes, but I don't know which proportion of Flash videos Gnash is able to
read. I use Gnash on Trisquel, but occasionally see popups saying I
should install Adobe Flash player. And sometimes the video simply
doesn't play without saying why.

What about something along these lines:

"Due to lack of funding, the development of GNU Gnash has come to a
standstill. However, every effort is made to address any security bugs
that might be reported in a published version.

In a few years, with Adobe phasing out its Flash player, Gnash may
become the most effective software to play the SWF format. This is why
we would very much like to keep this project alive. Any donations and/or
other funding that would enable us to resume development and achieve
complete compatibility with SWF would be greatly appreciated."

Of course, the paragraph on donations would stay.
