I *think* this is invalid ... we can re-open if I've misunderstood.
I guess you/Matt had a minor communication problem/confusion on irc,probably
confusing gdnc with gdomap.
gdnc is needed by all applications to handle distributed notifications, so it
always needs to be launched if it is not already running (just like gpbs).
gdomap on the other hand, is needed as a name server for public connections
(anything where your app might want to communicate with another user or with
another machine) ... so if all you are doing is running applications which
communicate solely with your own applications on the same host (probably most
apps), you don't have to have gdomap running, and can set NSPortIsMessagePort
to tell applications to use private connections instead.
NB. private connections are not implemented on windows .. so that still has
the old behavior.
