Global extensions

Salutations,

On Archlinux I have uninstalled my local profile's extensions. I've downloaded
the .xpi files again, and I have placed them into /usr/lib/icecat/extensions.
Then, after restarting icecat, I was hoping to see something along the lines of
a dialog that would ask me if I wanted to install these extensions. But alas,
nothing like that came onto my screen.

I have also tried to chmod the icecat dir to my username so that I have write
permissions. But, that did not help.

How can I get global extensions to work?
