Well that may explain it!   Is that hard-coded, or is it a config setting ?

The question in my head now, for Icecat and DDG to co-operate as it were (without using a different engine), is how to affect the 'html' search (parameters, keywords etc) to ensure region searching takes place and without having to manually add them as query string params for each search.....or even if this is possible ?

I disabled all extensions etc in my efforts to get the searching to work, so LibreJS was not an issue at this point. Thank you for mentioning it though.

It does look like other DDG engines can be used in place of the default, so there is that option.

This is because the search bars use the HTML-only service which is
available at http://duckduckgo.com/html. The main DuckDuckGo website
uses _javascript_ that is technically free, but it is not declared using
the GNU Specifications for such, meaning that LibreJS won't allow it.
Also, many users don't use _javascript_ at all. This is why it uses the
HTML service. DuckDuckGo has recently improved their HTML-only site.
