Follow-up Comment #2:
Much of this has been done. Here's a grep for checkpointing purposes. NEWS,
ChangeLogs, and similar are excluded. Source code comments and symbol names
_are_ included because internal and external documentation should align.
Also, I haven't found any need to apply the term "scaled width", so I am
simplifying the scope of this ticket.
