BTW, somehow I have overlooked your yesterday's bug report.  It is the
key to your problems! It shows that maidag failed with

maidag: error: Creating mailer
`sendmail:/home/chris/admin/build/mailutils-2.99.96/examples/mta' failed: 
Malformed or unsupported mailer URL

Now, configure log shows that you have configured Mailutils with the
"--disable-sendmail" option, which means that Mailutils no longer 
understands the "sendmail:" URL scheme.  And this is the default MTA
scheme used by mail and also the scheme that the failed test attempted
to use.

I must admit that I should not have provided a way to disable sendmail
scheme in the first place, given that many tools rely on it in the
testcases or otherwise.  I'll remove this option in the 3.0 release.
Thanks a lot for bringing this to my attention.

In the meantime I'd suggest recompiling Mailutils without the
"--disable-sendmail" option.
