Well, the clue is in the name :) You have to hide clefs as well if you
want them gone - if you put a clef change in the middle of a passage
where you are typesetting neither notes nor staff you will still get
other things. Attached is a score that just prints a bass clef. I've
hidden the opening clef, but to hide the ones at the beginning of each
line you would need something more general (\new Staff with Remove
ClefEngraver? Or is there a \hideClefs?).
