This just dropped into my mailbox.
If you are looking for a job or likely to be looking for a job in the
future in Media and the creative IT spheres this might be useful.
I wouldn't say it is massively helpful by the looks of it for those
interested in looking for technical things, but I do know they have at
least one opportunity for a placement for a php coder...

There are more free software orientated jobs out there than you might
think, you just need to know what to look for.

This is aimed at University students but having talked to them, they
didn't have a bias against younger people so...

Oh, I really recommend joining Manchester Digital if you are in the
area, but contrary to what was stated you can get a free account without
a .ac.uk email. If you are interested in finding out, let me know.

Tim

Hello - you're receiving this email having given your address to Enda,
Simon or Saskia, the team from Northwest Vision and Media and
Skillset that were present at ProDev Day on the 12th of November.
Thanks for coming to talk to us!

WHO WE ARE

Northwest Vision and Media works on behalf of the digital and
creative industries in the Northwest to grow a world-class digital and
creative economy within the region. We provide strategic leadership,

our newsletter, subscribe to our news feeds and have a browse - you'll
find details on the events, funding, training and work placements we
support across all digital and creative industries, including digital
and games.
Training and networking opportunities and placements will start popping
up more and more often, so it's best to drop by at least once a week.

good starting point is the careers section of the website, but you can
also find a wealth of knowledge broken down by sector: www.skillset.org

We're also working very closely with *Business Link Northwest*. If
you've got a business idea, or want to go freelance, they can help you

WHAT'S OUT THERE

As you spent time with us on the day, in return we thought it only right
to show you that the Northwest has a thriving industry of creative
digital businesses, large and small, all offering opportunities for the
best new talent. You need to get to know them, though, as the best
companies want you to be fired up about what they do and who they are.
So here's a few recommendations on places to find out more about digital
employers in the region:

Manchester Digital
www.manchesterdigital.com

**Manchester Digital is the independent trade association for the
thriving digital sector in the Northwest of England. On their site
there's a choice selection of events, news stories and a directory of
digital companies in the region. Membership is free is you're a
student with a valid ".ac.uk" email address. Manchester Digital
organises the annual Big Chip Awards the region's leading awards event
for digital business in the region.

Northern Digitals
www.northerndigitals.com

A monthly meet up where digital creatives from in and around Manchester
can get away from their screens and talk to other digital creatives over
a pint.

GeekUp
geekup.org

GeekUp is a community of web designers, web developers, *and
other tech-minded folk from the UK. It's a grassroots, knowledge
sharing and networking social for folks involved or interested in the
web and technology industry. Monthly events take place in Chester,
Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Preston and
Sheffield. From GeekUp's pages you'll also find links to the MDDA,
PHP Northwest, Northwest Ruby usergroup, Manchester VBUG.NET usergroup
and Northern StartUp 2.0 - all worth checking out depending on what
you're into.

Those are just some of the digital-related networks in the region, but
don't forget design, media and creative industries networks such as
Merseyside ACME - http://www.merseysideacme.com
CIDS http://www.cids.co.uk

Design Initiative http://www.designinit.org.uk
D&AD http://www.dandad.org/about/north.html
and more.
