Could you see whether the following change that I've just made the
other day works?

        * macterm.c:
        [USE_CARBON_EVENTS] (mac_convert_event_ref)
        (mac_handle_command_event, mac_handle_window_event)
        (mac_handle_mouse_event): Check error code of GetEventParameter.
        (convert_fn_keycode) [MAC_OSX]: Likewise.

This was intended for the prolem that Carbon Emacs crashes if mouse
wheel is moved at startup.  So it was not directly for the one you
described, but it seems to happen at the same place of the code.
