[emms-help] emms-streams file description field needed?

While poking around in emms-streams.el, I could not find an instance
where the "file descriptor" field of entries in emms-stream-list is
used for anything important.  Would it be OK if I remove the file
descriptor field, leaving just name, url, and type?
