Normally you should be able to add a URL to the playlist with
`emms-add-url' and play it as if it was a simple file.

If that doesn't work for you, please describe exactly what you did, what
messages were printed and which URL you tried.

For example I did `M-x emms-add-url RET
http://www.shoutcast.com/sbin/shoutcast-playlist.pls?rn=8751&file=filename.pls'
to check if it works.  It added the URL to the playlist and RET on it
started playing.
