I believe it has been fixed.
I even did a 'stress test' by removing the help files and the error
message that appears than is correct. Gnome-commander now searches for
the help files in the correct
directories; /usr/share/gnome/help/gnome-commander
and /usr/local/share/gnome/help/gnome-commander.
