I'm using gnump3d 2.8 on a Debian unstable machine. MP3's and Ogg Vorbis

you shouldn't need to set anything. I see that the latest Debian
package has:
$AUDIO_SUFFIXES{ "m4a" } = 1;
In /usr/share/perl5/gnump3d/files.pm which should be sufficient to
make the .m3a files be listed in the output pages.
What do you see when you run it? Are the files listed in the
webpages? Do they appear in playslists if you download one manually?
What version of the server are you running?
