right now I'm working on your color patch, changing virtually
everything :-) So please don't work on the patch you've sent to me.
It will take still one or two days until the changes are available in
the CVS; you've omitted some things which are necessary (initializing
environment::environment(symbol) properly, handling the `interrupted'
flag for \m and \M, missing update of usage(), etc.), and the
documentation isn't complete also.  Additionally, I'm adding extensive
error handling to .defcolor to get consistent behaviour...
