Sorry to be a smart aleck, but why are there separate "URL"
and "FTP" macros?  Isn't ftp covered by URL already?  Come
to think of it, isn't mailto, too?  Why not a unified link
macro,

  .LINK "text" prot://host/dir/file

that works for all kinds of hyperlinks, like

  .LINK "Joe Cool" mailto:address@hidden

or

  .LINK "My home page" http://www.dot.com/joecool/home.html

Or, if you believe that separate macros are better suited
to describe elements of the document structure, the URL
macro should perhaps be renamed HTTP, as I presume that's
what it is intended for.
