When you boot into Debian you're offered to repartition any Mac volume -- that's presumingly not that what you want? If so you could try to boot into OpenBSD or NetBSD. I think both have a tool to manipulate the partition table, change the type of partitions ...
Have you checked tucows? (http://mac.tucows.com/) Is Apple's pdisk not enough?
