Well, 2.3.1 compiles OK on MacOS 10.3.9, all 105 tests are OK, and it seems to work with the programs I've tested so far.

It also compiles on SuSE Linux 9.3 x86_64, all 105 tests pass, and runs OK so far

GNU Smalltalk 2.3.1, a bug-fix release, is now available on ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/smalltalk/smalltalk-2.3.1.tar.gz

This version includes the following changes:

* configure does not lock up when the system emacs is XEmacs and lacks either the comint package or the package's source code.

* Fixed a garbage collection bug that typically occurred when installing GNU Smalltalk, or when launching the installed image.

* gst-package honors the INSTALL command found by configure.

* gst-config does not "forget" to prefix the library directories with -L.

* Segmentation violations on large integer operations (on 64-bit hosts) were fixed.

Thanks to the people who reported these bugs, including Michael Fellinger, Brad Watson, Jochen Schmitt, Bruno Haible, Mamoru Tasaka.

Paolo
