Hi Ivan,

you are right, the code differs from the specification. The first 
implementation of the function 
was according to the specs but it dit not work! I have modified the function so 
that all my available
test files could be read. The result is that R2004 files can be read but the 
code is still in an experimental
state due to the lack of suitable examples (color references or transparency).

Do you have crashes in this area?
