We recently supported a hackathon run by EFF that was geared towards
creating materials and resources for the ongoing fight against
international agreements like TPP. I think that's a good model for
creating a hackathon geared towards non-devs. Artists can work on
graphics, writers can put together written materials, devs can work on
technical infrastructure to share the works, etc.

A few years back we did a booksprint at Libreplanet where over the
course of the conference we wrote and edited an introduction to the
commandline. You could call that or any event where people come
together to work on a project or set of projects a hackathon as well;
it's just terminology really.

Which reminds me, are any of you guys coming to Libreplanet this year?
<https://libreplanet.org/2016/>. I'll of course be going.

But yeah, there are ways to make hackathons work for everyone, not
just developers. I'm pretty keen on this issue as well, as although I
work at the FSF, I'm not a technical person.
