It seems to me that \lyrics is deprecated. Can we have a deprecation
warning for that command, together with a remark in the documentation? On
the other hand, there's a lot of code in the lilypond documentation which
actually uses \lyrics...
Maybe it's even better to remove \lyrics completely?
I stumbled upon this since I've erronously used \lyrics instead of
\lyricmode, trying to typeset lyrics over a staff line. However, since
\lyrics apparently always aligns text below a staff, this failed miserably,
and it took me a quite long time to find my mistake, wondering why
\new Lyrics \with {
\override VerticalAxisGroup #'staff-affinity = #DOWN
}
doesn't work as expected.
