I was confused above about the behavior with point-stencil; nobody reported  
crashes with a point stencil.

That original example gave "assertion failed !is_empty () at  
flower/include/interval.hh:226" on my Debian-ish 'lily-dev' setup, but the  
commit mentioned above solved the problem there.

If the original example still crashes, with the latest source, compiled  
under Fedora 22, but now with no assert message, we will probably need  
somebody using Fedora 22 to help, combing through the core file and such.
