Just a quick explanation of why numbers in @Diag names go wrong.
Long ago, to make equation formatting work well, I set the token
structure of Lout to separate numbers from letters, so that
ITEM1
is treated as the two tokens ITEM followed by 1. This often does
not matter - if neither token is the name of a symbol, they just
get joined together again. But in the case of
address@hidden
you have the three tokens ITEM 1 @E and the third one is the
symbol for in-line equations and is interpreted as such. But
address@hidden is always a single token (@ is just a letter), and
enclosing in quotes keeps things together too, so either fix
is OK.
