<body>
<h1>Lynx</h1>

<p>Lynx is a full-screen text-oriented browser for the World Wide
Web and integrated information services. The core product is
a portable program for VMS and various versions of Un*x. There
is a DOS derivative, but it is not fully feature-compatible with the
primary product.
</p>

<p>
Originally developed
for the Campus-Wide Information Service at the University of
Kansas, it has been maintained and significantly advanced through
version 2.6 principally through the leadership and hard work of
Foteos Macrides of the Worcester Foundation for Biological
Research.
</p>
<p>
The lynx.browser.org domain has been defined to provide a stable
address for Lynx as more volunteers share in the work. This page
&lt;URL: http://lynx.browser.org/&gt; will maintain links to
resources around the globe of particular interest to Lynx users,
operators, and developers. More information about Lynx is
available from the following sites:
</p>
<!-- This page should not itself contain status information. --
-- Status should be the subject of a separate page --

-- The latest release of Lynx is version 2.6, which incorporates many --
-- features intended to adapt Lynx to the mutable Web.Lynx 2.6 implements --
-- fully HTML 2.0, 3.0, 3.2 (Wylbur) and HTTP 1.0; it marks a beginning --
-- towards compliance with HTTP 1.1.   -->

<ul> <li>The <a
href="http://www.nyu.edu/pages/wsn/subir/lynx.html";>Lynx Enhanced
Pages</a> tell where you can find a publicly accessible Lynx to
take for a test drive, and how to get Lynx. These pages provide
public copies of Lynx documents, discuss Web authoring for the
text-based audience, and recognize many sites which work well
with Lynx.

<li>The <a href="http://lynx.cc.ukans.edu/lynx-dev/";>Archives of
Lynx-Dev</a>, the Lynx mailing list, provide knowledge above and
beyond what is in the formal documents. In particular you may
want to search these archives with the help of one of the
publicly available Web search engines.

<li><a
href="http://www.access.digex.net/~asgilman/lynx/FAQ/Als_picks.html";>Al
Gilman's Lynx FAQ</a> is a collection of links to some especially
reusable pearls from the lynx-dev list.

<li>Another possible starting point is<a
href="http://www.yahoo.com/Computers_and_Internet/Internet/World_Wide_Web/Browsers/Lynx/";>Yahoo's
Lynx page</a>

<li>The<a href="http://www.cc.ukans.edu/about_lynx/about_lynx.html";>The
About Lynx</a> page at the University of Kansas has more of Lynx's history.
For the latest information, however, check here or at the Lynx Enhanced
Pages.

<li><a href="/rp/">LynxRP</a> is a developmental version beyond 2.6.

<!-- I believe Rob should eschew the concept of "I am _the_ --
-- integrator" because it creates a man-eating job.  Rob's interest is     --
-- in defining as much of the problem as Hiram's, JOHNLIM's, Subir's, etc. --
-- as possible. -- -- Al Gilman -->
