Also, Slang is much more than just an ncurses replacement.  It includes
a full language in which extensions can be written.  Lynx is only a
small part of slang.  

I don't know whether it was originally planned to use more of slang
when Lynx started using it.  If so that idea seems to have fallen by
the wayside.

Another potential benefit of slang vs ncurses is that is is available
on more platforms (including DOS, I believe).
