  I have just downloaded 2-6, which I am hoping is the current version, 

2.6 is the latest major release.  There are some recommended patches
and some experimental patches.  But mostly 2.6 is current.  To keep

     * There is a [1] -DNO_TTYTYPE Make switch that isn't well
       advertised, but some will need.
