Lynx is decidedly of mixed parentage and no one really knows how many
parents have actually contributed significant genes, though one suspects
most work in them. In terms of actual breeding, the developers have
obviously bred somewhat, though late night bug-fix excursions have perhaps
limited the quality and frequency of mating. Nevertheless, some of the
developers consider themselves well-bred, and others prefer pizza.

Although not as lavishly colored as its cousins Mosaic and Netscape,
breeders cite its fleetness of foot as a major reason for its continued
existence. Quite competent in its own right, Lynx will hopefully stay
alive until bandwidth is no longer an issue and gif files fly by as fast
as text. Contrary to carbon-based lifeforms, the lifespan of lynx is
measured in versions and tenths. The latest appears to be 2.6, though many
sites are quite content with 2.5 and prior. Many sites will undoubtedly
keep lynx around along with its bretheren as long as modems are slow and
lines are busy.

Sites who use Lynx well have developed quite a loyalty to this feline, and
though swearing at its obtuse config files will always defend it in the
face of ignorant opposition. Backing a Lynx administrator into a corner is
not considered a good idea.

Although this history of Lynx is a little spotty, I hope this short tail
will help you understand the habitat of the Lynx a little more completely.
