Heh, I am not even aware that I did anything to speed it up.
Are you sure you are comparing things with the same settings?
DIRED_SUPPORT, LONG_LIST, LIST_FORMAT from Makefile and/or userdefs.h
and/or lynx.cfg, and the "l(I)st directory style" O)ption, and
-restrictions=dired_support, all change what you see.

Yes, you can go from / to /.. to /../.. to /../../.. and so on, which
is all just the same as /.
And on Unix /.. *is* the same directory as /, so the behavior is not
actually wrong, it's just confusing.

Well you don't :)
I was aware that there were these kinds of things left.
The changes were already extensive enough, and I didn't want to
change more in HTFile.c than necessary. It interacts with FTP mode,
and then probably also with HTParse.c...

Again, I don't know that I did anything to make it faster, but that
may depend on lots of things. I hope whether *you* find a use for
DIRED mode doesn't depend on whether the unnecessary ../ links are
there or not, 'cause they will probably be around for a while...
(Of course if you found that I introduced some *new* bogosity please
tell me by all means.)
