I'm quite ignorant about Japanese and the only thing that comes to mind
is Accept-Charset header. Lynx 2.5 is seting it automaticaly when you
select the display character set. Lynx 2.6 does not (don't know why) and
you have to set it manually. Perhaps the server does not return the correct
header if it doesn't see Accept-Charset in request. This had to be
done when dealing with old versions of Microsoft Explorer, I think.

If this is the problem, go to O)ptions page and select the propper
'display (C)haracter set'. Then select 'preffered document c(H)arset'
and input the charset name there. The names of Japanese code pages are
listed in HTTP 1.1 draft which is available via Lynx's online help.
Perhaps in HTTP 1.0 (which is much shorter), but I'm not sure.

If it's not Accept-Charset, I'm clueless...
