Ok, and its is appreciated.  So retroactively consider that sentence
amended with a smiley, please.

Yes, that's not under dispute..

I don't see what this has to do with dynamic pages.
Anyway it seems with the Formatted Output option the validator would
insert those named anchors on each line without considering context,
making even valid HTML invalid.

I didn't look too closely, but A elements within SELECT seem to
utterly confuse it.  Of course that should be fixed in Lynx (at least to
the extent that it doesn't crash) but that won't help with the countless
old versions around.

That might help.  Or a warning that goes with the [x] Show Formatted Output
option, that this may generate invalid HTML (even from valid input) (which
may even crash some browsers, mention Lynx if you must;)).  I leave it
to you how to make that concise enough to fit on your form page. ;)
