The "glitch" was that it sent an HTAlert message claiming an
access failure instead of an HTProgress message acknowledging the
interrupt.

It doesn't send an HTAlert when I 'z'ap a DNS lookup with a
solaris2 make on Scott's system with SunOS v5.4, or an osf make on
an AXP system. If the forking code, itself, does work on a system,
the messaging follows that, and should also work.

If you interrupt the DNS lookups associated with guessing
the host in command line startfile or 'g'oto strings, you will
get an HTAlert, since you're cancelling a guess, not the fetch
attempt, and the message tells you that the fetch attempt failed.
If the guessing completes and is successful, and a fetch is
initiated, an interrupt thereafter should not yield an HTAlert.
