LYNX-DEV mail header editing verboten?

Subject: LYNX-DEV mail header editing verboten?

I like mail programs that allow the user to edit the headers.
Lynx 2.3 allowed that but ti was changed in 2.4 because:

<blockquote>
* Don't allow the editing of Unix mail headers because that is error
  prone (no change on VMS; editable pseudo-headers are included for
  informational purposes, but the real headers are those of the
  account running Lynx - FM).
</blockquote>

Considering that the typical Lynx setup I have seen allows the
user to enter their own personal name and email address, how
serious of a problem is this really?

I just hacked my copy to allow it again, and while I was at it
threw in a crude bit that appends the letter to $MAILRECORD
if that variable is set. I had found it kinda annoying that lynx
was the only program I ever used to send mail which didn't have
some sort of option for that.

Incidentally, the personal name and email address are usually
enocded like this:

From: Personal name <address@hidden>

or

From: address@hidden (Personal name)

(Or close, I don't have RFC822 in front of me.) Why doesn't
lynx follow this convention?
